Cisco Live 2026: Agentic AI, Unified Operations and Quantum-Safe Security

At Cisco Live 2026, Cisco unveiled one of the most ambitious platform transformations in its history, signaling a future where artificial intelligence is not merely embedded into infrastructure but actively operates and defends it.

The event marked a pivotal moment for the networking giant as it introduced Cisco Cloud Control, expanded its vision for AgenticOps, advanced its collaborative AI workspace through Cisco AI Canvas, and accelerated its push toward quantum-resilient security. Together, the announcements demonstrate how Cisco is repositioning itself from a networking vendor into a platform company focused on managing AI-powered enterprises.

The Network Is Back at the Center of Enterprise Strategy

For years, networking infrastructure was often viewed as a mature technology layer. Cisco Live 2026 challenged that perception.

According to Cisco executives, the rapid emergence of AI agents, autonomous applications, and machine-generated workloads has fundamentally changed enterprise requirements. Networks are no longer transporting traffic between users and applications; they are becoming the operational fabric through which AI systems communicate, collaborate, and act.

As highlighted during Cisco Live, AI-generated workloads create persistent, high-volume traffic patterns that differ significantly from traditional enterprise applications. This shift is elevating networking from a support function to a strategic AI enabler.

Cisco Cloud Control: A Unified Command Center for Humans and AI

The centerpiece of Cisco Live 2026 was the launch of Cisco Cloud Control, a unified platform designed to bring networking, security, observability, collaboration, and infrastructure management into a single operational environment.

The platform combines capabilities previously spread across products such as:

• Cisco Meraki
• Cisco Intersight
• Cisco Security Cloud Control
• Splunk
• Cisco collaboration technologies

With Cloud Control, organizations gain a single operational layer where human administrators and AI agents share the same context, data, workflows, and policies. Cisco describes this as the foundation of its AgenticOps vision, a model where AI agents perform operational tasks while humans maintain oversight and governance.

AI Canvas Evolves into a Collaborative Operations Environment

Another major focus of Cisco Live 2026 was the evolution of Cisco AI Canvas.

Initially introduced as an AI-assisted operations interface, AI Canvas has matured into a collaborative workspace where network engineers, security analysts, operations teams, and AI agents can investigate incidents together. The platform preserves operational context across shifts and teams, reducing information loss during incident response and troubleshooting.

The concept reflects a broader industry transition from AI assistants toward AI teammates. Rather than simply generating recommendations, AI Canvas allows agents to actively participate in investigations, correlate telemetry, surface remediation options, and maintain institutional knowledge over time.

Building the Agentic Enterprise

Cisco’s announcements extended beyond AI-powered operations into AI application development.

Through Cloud Control Studio, customers can create and deploy custom AI agents using Agent Builder and develop enterprise applications through App Builder. The latter leverages technology from OpenAI and its coding system, Codex, enabling users to generate operational applications using natural language prompts.

Cisco also announced plans for a Cloud Control Marketplace that will enable organizations to discover, deploy, and manage third-party agents and applications from partners across the ecosystem. Initial integrations include services from major cloud and enterprise software providers, reflecting Cisco’s effort to create a platform rather than a standalone product.

Security Becomes AI-Native

Security was equally prominent at Cisco Live 2026..

Cisco executives argued that traditional cybersecurity models cannot keep pace with AI-driven attackers capable of discovering vulnerabilities and launching attacks at machine speed. In response, the company introduced enhanced security capabilities designed to protect both enterprise environments and the AI agents operating within them.

New protections include:

• Agent security controls for AI systems
• Runtime protection against emerging vulnerabilities
• Expanded Live Protect capabilities
• Automated threat detection and remediation workflows
• AI-powered operational defense agents

The company also announced changes to its vulnerability disclosure practices, moving toward more frequent security updates to address the accelerated pace of AI-assisted vulnerability discovery.

Quantum Security Moves from Theory to Strategy

One of the most forward-looking themes at Cisco Live 2026 was quantum readiness.

As enterprises prepare for the eventual arrival of cryptographically relevant quantum computing, Cisco emphasized the need to begin transitioning toward quantum-safe architectures today. The company showcased multiple initiatives related to quantum networking, quantum-safe communications, and long-term cryptographic resilience.

Cisco’s broader strategy reflects a belief that organizations cannot wait until practical quantum computers emerge before modernizing their security frameworks. Instead, quantum preparedness is becoming an integral component of infrastructure planning and cyber resilience programs.

A New Identity for Cisco

Cisco Live 2026 ultimately revealed a company undergoing a profound transformation. Historically known for routers, switches, and enterprise networking, Cisco is increasingly positioning itself as an AI infrastructure, operations, and security platform provider. The convergence of Cloud Control, AI Canvas, AgenticOps, security automation, observability, and quantum resilience points toward a future where enterprises operate through a combination of human expertise and autonomous software agents.

The message from Cisco Live was clear: the network is no longer simply connecting the business. In the age of agentic AI, it is becoming the system through which the business thinks, acts, and defends itself.
